Research
The greatest challenge for human society in this century is to build a sustainable society. From the perspective of resources and energy, it is necessary to develop new resources and energy with a small environmental impact. Although our country's land area is small, our exclusive economic zone is vast, and the potential of this ocean to solve this problem is extremely large. Our laboratory is focusing on ocean renewable energy sources such as wind, ocean currents, tidal currents, temperature differences, waves, and the sun as energy sources. In this field, there is a worldwide research competition for practical application. We are also conducting research on the development of deep-sea bottom mineral resources, CO2 ocean sequestration as a countermeasure against global warming, the formation of fishing grounds by improving the marine environment, and environmentally-friendly logistics and resource storage facilities using ocean space. In order to lead the development and the realization of these researches, we are planning the development of resources such as marine renewable energy and methane hydrate, and are working on the development of elemental technologies for offshore platforms such as VIV and VIM behavior prediction of risers and floating structures, stationkeeping and materials, with the goal of developing advanced technologies.
